Grandmother’s methods: why do I need an iodine net?

Older people remember that in childhood, with bruises or colds, mothers painted a grid with iodine on their bodies. And today, many have not refused such treatment. And what helps (and does it help) the iodine net? When can it be useful?

Iodine properties
The most common way to use iodine is to treat the skin around a wound or cut. In this way, damage is disinfected so that the pathogens do not penetrate the wound.

However, iodine has other wonderful properties:

heals wounds;
relieves inflammation, penetrating deep into tissues and destroying pathogenic bacteria;
warms the tissues due to irritation of skin receptors and increased blood circulation in the area of application.
It is on the last two qualities of iodine that the effect produced by the iodine net is based.

Who and when invented the treatment with iodine net
This method, called iodotherapy, was suggested by I. S. Kolbasenko, doctor from St. Petersburg. It was more than 100 years ago, at the very beginning of the 20th century. Iodine has been used as an antiseptic since the beginning of the 19th century, but Kolbasenko went further. He suggested that iodine, penetrating deep into the tissue, affects the pathological processes, stopping them. Thus arose iodotherapy – a new direction for treatment at that time.

Today, official medicine does not recognize the effectiveness of the use of iodotherapy. But in some situations it can be useful. The main thing is to draw the grid correctly.
How to make an iodine grid
For the grid take 5% iodine solution. A cotton swab is dipped into the bubble (a match with a cotton swab can be used) and it is neatly drawn with the lines horizontally and vertically, forming squares with a side of about a centimeter.

Iodine net must be applied with a cotton swab
Before the first application it is necessary to check whether the patient has iodine allergy. To do this, spend a stick with iodine on the forearm (inner side) and wait 20-30 minutes. If there are no unpleasant consequences (redness, rash, blisters), you can make a grid.

It is better to carry out this procedure in the evening, before bedtime. The skin must be dry, intact.

How often can iodine grid be made? Do not get too carried away, a week two or three times is enough.

What helps iodotherapy?
Hematomas at blows and bruises
Grid of iodine will help remove the bruise after injury. But you can not use it immediately. First, put a cold on the injured area so that the edema is gone. And only the next day you can draw a grid. Otherwise, the swelling will not resolve – iodine prevents this.

On hematomas formed during the injection, apply the grid immediately.

Colds
From the cold mesh draw on the nose, grabbing the nose and wings of the nose. Only it is necessary to take into account that here the skin is thin, and it is necessary to draw with light lines and very carefully so as not to burn the skin.

With colds, the net on the legs, more precisely on the feet and calves, also helps.

Cough
To alleviate the condition with a non-productive (dry) cough, you can draw a mesh on your chest.

Varicose veins
Iodine mesh in the case of varicose veins allows you to remove the swelling, reduce pain and relieve fatigue from the legs.

With varicose iodine mesh will help remove puffiness
Joint pain
The grid of iodine relieves pain and reduces inflammation in the joint. Before applying iodine joint is recommended to steam.

Muscle and back pain
The mesh on the back is drawn, placing the lines parallel to the spinal column. The mesh will help relieve muscle pain.

Iodine helps with other ailments:

neuralgia;
thrombosis;
angina;
sprains;
mastitis;
skin inflammations.
Is it possible to make an iodine net for children and during pregnancy?
In babies, the skin is exceptionally delicate, it is easy to burn. Therefore, do not use iodine in a child under three years of age.

As for pregnancy, it is better to do without iodine nets. If you still do them, then very carefully, making sure at the outset that the iodine itself does not cause adverse reactions (even if there were no problems with it before). And it is advisable to consult a doctor before.

When the iodine grid is harmful
1. Absolute contraindication – hypersensitivity to this substance. If there are rashes, redness, blisters on the skin or you feel a lack of air, dizzy, then iodotherapy is contraindicated to you.

2. You can not use iodotherapy in diseases of the thyroid gland, when increased production of thyroid hormones (hyperthyroidism).

At high temperatures can not use iodine
3. It is forbidden to use iodine if the temperature is elevated (more than 38 degrees), as it will become even higher.

4. Iodine should not be applied to irritated skin.

5. It is forbidden to draw a grid around the heart.

6. Do not apply iodine with a large spot – you can burn the skin.

Does the net help with iodine deficiency?
Official medicine definitely answers – no. Firstly, too little iodine is absorbed to help overcome iodine deficiency. And secondly, there is no scientific evidence for this.
