Why do men harder disease?
How many jokes on this topic sounded: it seems to be a stronger sex, but how little the temperature rises – well, it just dies. So they consider women of men to be overly suspicious and selfish. In fact, the representatives of the stronger sex really suffer from the disease more than their girlfriends. And this is confirmed by science. What are the reasons for such gender inequality?
1. Body temperature
It turns out that in men the normal body temperature is on average half a degree lower than in women. And, naturally, when the temperature rises with the disease, men feel worse than ladies, who at 38 degrees can do basic household chores, and even go to work.
2. Sweating
Men sweat more intensely than women. All other conditions being the same, they emit about 2 times more sweat. And therefore, for diseases with a high temperature, men with sweating feel dizzy and they experience severe weakness.
3. Immunity
It was found that men have a weaker immunity compared with women. Thus, in women with the disease, more lymphocytes are produced – cells of the immune system that fight pathogenic microbes. This is due to the peculiarities of the hormonal background, namely, female estrogen hormones, which strengthen the immune system. That is why women suffer infectious diseases, including colds, easier and recover faster.
4. And once again hormones
The male sex hormone, testosterone, which makes a man a man, is at the same time responsible for raising the so-called bad cholesterol. This cholesterol is deposited on the vessels and leads to the occurrence of heart disease and stroke. And estrogens, on the contrary, inhibit the growth of bad cholesterol, increasing the level of good.
Sex hormones determine pain sensitivity. It is estrogen that weakens the feeling of pain in women. And if men had to give birth, most of them would simply have died in labor contractions, having experienced a painful shock.
5. Lifestyle
It’s no secret that bad habits such as alcohol and smoking are more characteristic of the stronger sex. In addition, they, unlike women, are not inclined to think about their health and care little about proper nutrition, physical activity, and preventive examinations. And most of them can be dragged to the doctor only when the disease is already in full swing and there is no strength to endure it. So it turns out that men get sick more often and harder.
6. Resistance to stress
And here women were ahead of men: the latter have a rather low resistance to stress. Perhaps the reason for this lies in childhood. After all, how boys are raised: you are a man, you must not cry and endure all the troubles and adversities stoically. All negative emotions are driven inside, which subsequently leads to various diseases – after all, in the statement “All diseases from nerves” there is a grain of truth. And it is easier for women in this respect: it will burst into tears violently – and all the negative will be thrown out.
Yes, men in terms of health are not so strong sex. And these new gender differences are studied by the recently appeared science – gender medicine.
